BANTING BLITZES WORLD CONTEST IN NZ

Port Macquarie surfer Matt Banting is celebrating a world championship win.

The 15-year-old won an individual title and helped steer Australia to victory in the ISA World Junior Championship at New Zealand.

Taking out the under-16 crown, Banting was a standout in the testing conditions at Piha Beach.

He easily out-surfed American Jake Halstead and Hawaii’s Koa Smith in the final, netting a two-wave total of 15.9 points.

The win has further cemented the Aussies’ domination of the event, which the national team has now won for the fifth consecutive year.
