COUNCIL ABANDONS VALENTINE-BELMONT HIGHWAY

Lake Macquarie Council has turned its back on 50 years of planning, by scrapping a highway planned for Valentine to Belmont.
The road, which would have allowed motorists to avoid the current S-bends, never attracted funding from the state government.
Council spent almost $2-million acquiring land, which will now be sold and spent on improving congestion in Belmont.
“Now we’re going to turn to the state government and say well let’s fix the traffic problems up in Belmont and get traffic down Maude Street.” – Laurie Coghlan, Lake Macquarie Councillor
