NATURE COUNCIL CALLS FOR TOUGHER LOGGING REGULATIONS

The Nature Conservation Council will join protesters tomorrow near the site of a private logging operation at Whian Whian.
The group will use the opportunity to call on the State Government to strengthen regulations governing logging on private land.
“The existing regulatory framework is completely inadequate the Private Native Forestry code doesn’t require loggers or landholders to look before they log.”
Protesters claim the operation taking place at Whian Whian is illegal and that the EPA hasn’t appropriately surveyed the area for endangered species.
“The EPA has absolutely my confidence they are under my government a stand alone statutory authority.”
