A former Catholic priest, convicted of numerous child sex offences mainly in the Hunter area, has referred to himself as a scumbag paedophile during sentencing submissions in court.
John Sidney Denham said his victims had been children he’d initially taken pity on, and expressed remorse for his behaviour which he now finds hard to explain.
The offences date back to the late 1960s but continued through the 70s and 80s during his time at a Newcastle’s St Pius High School.
Sentencing continues in Sydney on Friday.
