What motivated you to run for the seat of Hunter again?

Our local economy remains strong and we’ve had record levels of Government spending in the electorate over the last six years. I want to continue my work.

What do you think are the major issues in the electorate?

Health, education, jobs and support for our seniors will remain my focus.

It’s traditionally a very safe Labor seat , how do you rate your chances of winning this election?

I take nothing for granted but I’m hopeful my record will provide me with the level of support necessary to retain Hunter

If re-elected what will be your first priority?

My first priority will be to ensure our local economy remains strong

What do you think is your biggest challenge in this election?

Making sure people understand our record and what an Abbott government would mean for them

What would you say to people who might be disillusioned with the Labor Party after the events of the past term?

I understand the hung parliament was messy and that reflects on the Government of the day. I simply ask them to remember what we’ve achieved despite Tony Abbott’s interference.

Why should people vote for you?

I hope people see in me as a hard working and effective member who has the runs on the board and a local who is absolutely committed to our local area.

VIEWER QUESTION from ANNE DAND: What plans do each party have to address the ageing population?

Addressing our ageing population requires work on workforce participation and on-going reform in our aged care sector. We’ve done lots on both fronts.

VIEWER QUESTION: Joel Fitzgibbon, what have you done so far to stop the building of the detention centre in Singleton.

The detention centre does not arise as an issue; it won’t happen because the boats have slowed and people are now going into community arrangements elsewhere.
