Narrabri residents will soon be able to fly directly to Sydney.
The local council has endorsed NorthWest Airlines as its preferred carrier.
The new partnership is subject to negotiations about a performance based licence, which will be monitored.
Council says it wants to give the community confidence, after airlines Brindabella and Vincent Aviation collapsed.
NorthWest Airlines could begin flying as early as next month.
