EIGHT INJURED IN YAMBA BALCONY COLLAPSE

Eight people have been injured in a balcony collapse on the mid north coast. Shortly after 8pm last night, emergency services were called to an address on Clarence Street in Yamba. On arriving, they found the balcony of a second story building had collapsed. Two women, aged 44 and 58, and a 61-year-old man, were taken to hospital in a stable condition. A 60-year-old man was airlifted to Lismore Hospital in a stable condition. Four other people were treated at the scene.

32 MDMA CAPSULES DISCOVERED DURING SEARCH

A 30-year-old man has been refused bail, after allegedly being found in possesion of 32 MDMA capsules at a Yamba hotel last night. Police from the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command were conducting patrols on Pilot Street when the man was stopped and searched. He was charged with supply and possessing a prohibited drug.

DROWNING DEATH IN NORTHERN NSW

A 46-year-old man has died while swimming at Kolora Lake Reserve at Yamba in Northern New South Wales. He was pulled from the water, unresponsive, at around two o’clock this afternoon. Despite the best efforts of responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

ROCK FISHERMAN FOUND DEAD AT YAMBA

A fisherman has died after falling from rocks at Yamba’s Turners Beach last night. The 30 year old, who wasn’t wearing a life jacket, was found in the water by a friend around dusk. Emergency crews brought the man to shore and commenced CPR, but unfortunately couldn’t revive him. His death is the fourth coastal drowning in New South Wales since July.

CAMERON PILLEY POWERS TO FINAL IN DUBAI

Yamba’s Cameron Pilley has progressed to the final of the PSA Dubai World Series Final,  after a stunning win over world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy overnight. Pilley, the lowest ranked player in the men’s draw, took the semi final victory after an impressive 11-9 11-6 performance at Dubai Park. The 33 year old will now meet France’s Gregory Gaultier. CAMERON PILLEY BOOKS SEMI FINAL BERTH

To squash, and Yamba’s Cameron Pilley has booked a semi final berth at the PSA Dubai World Series Finals overnight. The 33-year-old defeated Germany’s Simon Rösner 2-0 during a crunch encounter on the final day of round robin action. He’ll now meet Egypt’s Mohamed Elshorbagy. Pilley is the first Australian to make the top four in the season-ending tournament since 2008. (NO AUDIO)

GUN THIEF TARGETS YAMBA PROPERTY

Police are investigating a break-in at a Yamba property late yesterday afternoon, in which five guns were stolen from a safe. Neighbours raised the alarm after seeing a man run from the home, before speeding away in a white Volkswagon with Queensland number plates. Detectives believe the incident could be linked to other recent robberies at the Pinnacles and Southgate, where firearms were also stolen.
