ELDERLY PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAR

An elderly man has been airlifted to hospital after he was struck by a car at Narara this afternoon. It’s believed the vehicle hit him in the driveway of a Pacific Highway home, just after 2:00pm. CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER SUFFERING CARDIAC ARREST AIRLIFTED

A man in his 50’s has been airlifted from an ocean liner off the far north coast. The Pacific Jewel cruise liner was approximately five nautical miles off Lennox Head, when the Westpac Rescue Helicopter winched a paramedic and doctor on-board to treat a male passenger who was suffering a cardiac arrest. The patient, believed to be in his 50’s, was stabilised and airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital for further treatment. The patient’s condition has been reported as critical.

17-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AIRLIFTED AFTER RAYMOND TERRACE CRASH

A young woman is in a critical condition after being involved in a car crash near Raymond Terrace. Emergency units responded to a two-car collision on Seaham Road around 11am. It took rescuers more than an hour to free an 17-year-old woman from the wreckage of a hatchback. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter airlifted, the patient to John Hunter Hospital suffering head and internal injuries. The male driver of the other vehicle, a 4WD, escaped injury; he has been taken for mandatory testing.

INJURED MOTORBIKE RIDER WINCHED FROM DENSE BUSHLAND AT ABERDARE

A 46-year-old male has been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with internal injuries and fractures, after coming of his dirt bike earlier today in the Hunter Valley. Around 12:30pm, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to reports of a motorbike accident in dense bushland near Aberdare, between Kurri and Cessnock. Due to limited accessibility, paramedics were driven into the accident scene by a 4-wheel-drive, with Cessnock Voluntary Rescue Association cutting away bush to allow the 120ft winching to take place. The patient is reported to be in a stable condition.

11-YEAR-OLD AND AID WORKER AIRLIFTED AFTER GLENROCK FALL

An 11-year-old boy and a man – thought to be a support worker – have been winched to safety after becoming trapped at the base of a waterfall near Newcastle. It’s thought the pair left a track in the Glenrock State Conservation Area, and were injured after slipping and falling five metres into rock pools below. Emergency teams located and stabilised the patients – airlifting the boy to hospital suffering hypothermia. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter then made a second trip to winch out the 26-year-old man.

SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR A MAN SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AT NOBBYS

Police, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Volunteer Marine Rescue, and Surf Life Savers are currently searching for a man who was swept into the ocean in Newcastle yesterday. Around 7pm last night, two 23-year-old men were on a rock-face near Nobbys Beach when a wave knocked the pair into the water. Bystanders assisted one of the men to safety, but the second man could not be found. A search was initiated, but hazardous conditions forced the search to be suspended at about 9.40pm. The man was last seen wearing a navy blue t-shirt and black jeans.

SIX INJURED IN LAKE MACQUARIE CAR CRASH

Six people have been involved in a two-car crash at Cooranbong overnight. A 22-year-old woman suffered injuries to her lower legs in the smash – just after seven-o’clock. She was flown to John Hunter Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, while two other passengers were transported via ambulance. Their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

MAN INJURED BY PLANE AT MALANGANEE

A mishap while starting a light plane has left a 68-year-old man with multiple lacerations to his lower body. He was struck by the aircraft’s propeller at Malanganee just before four yesterday afternoon. The man was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
