QUEENSLAND MAN EXTRADITED OVER ALLEGED 2009 SEXUAL ASSAULT

A 29-year-old man from Queensland has been extradited to NSW over the alleged historical sexual abuse of a boy on the Central Coast. Police commenced an investigation following reports a young boy was sexually assaulted by a man known to him in 2009. With the assistance of Queensland Police, a 29-year-old man was arrested at Rockhampton on Wednesday, and he was subsequently extradidted to NSW. He appeared at Central Local Court yesterday, and was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16. Police will allege the man sexually assaulted the boy – then aged seven – when visiting at his home. He will reappear in court next week.

KYOGLE COUNCIL CONTINUE CROSS-BORDER TALKS

Kyogle councillors have continued cross-border talks with senior Queensland Government figures. 45 minutes from the border, Mayor Danielle Mulholland’s encouraging the town’s businesses to tender for work on the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. FAR NORTH COAST BASEBALLERS STEP UP TO THE PLATE THIS WEEKEND

Four up-and-coming Far North Coast baseball players will head south this weekend to compete in the National Baseball Championships. Oakley McMahon, Riley Donnelly, Taliesin O’Meara and Clare Evans will don Queensland uniforms, to represent the sunshine state in the competition at Blacktown. BRISBANE FATHER CHARGED WITH DAUGHTER’S MURDER

A father, accused of murdering his six-year-old daughter and attempting to kill her sister, has had his case mentioned in a Gold Coast court. The 52-year-old was charged after the young girl’s body was found by her mother in her bedroom at a house in Kendron, in Brisbane’s north yesterday. Police allege he also tried to murder her eight-year-old sister. The man was later arrested on the Gold Coast. Legal Aid lawyer, Jenna Johnsen, said her client wasn’t required to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today, and that the matter would have to return to the Brisbane jurisdiction. Magistrate Jacqueline Payne adjourned the matter for committal callover in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 28.

SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR MISSING WOMAN

Police are searching bushland in the Gold Coast hinterland for the body of a woman who’s been missing for six years. Queensland Police believe 46-year-old Linda Francis Sidon was murdered. The New Zealand-born woman was last seen in June 2009. A search began in the suburb of Numinbah yesterday and Detective Superintendent, Dave Hutchinson, says Ms Sidon’s son Daniel is a person of interest.
