A MIXED WEEKEND FOR THE KNIGHTS LOWER GRADES

It’s been a mixed weekend for the Newcastle Knights, with their minor premiership winning Under 20s side eliminated from the competition at the hands of the Warriors. After trailing 13 nil at half time, the Knights got back within three, but the Warriors ran away with the game 23-16. Meanwhile UK bound Josh Mantellato was the hero for the Knights NSW Cup side today. The winger scored Newcastle’s first three tries in the grand final qualifier against the Illawarra Cutters, as the Knights ran away with the game 34-10. They’ll now face Penrith in the decider next Sunday.

KNIGHTS HAMMER WYONG IN THE NSW CUP

The Knights first grade team didn’t have a Good Friday, but Easter Sunday has proved fruitful for the New South Wales Cup side. Wyong Roos fans didn’t have much to cheer about, this try to Tekina Vailea was the only time they crossed the line. In a side packed with NRL experience, it was former Kurri Bulldog Nathan Ross who crossed twice, as the Knights led 24-6 at half time. The carve up continued in the second half, this try to James Elias part of a 54 to six win.

WOLVES KNOCK THE KNIGHTS OUT OF NSW CUP

Things didn’t get any better for the Knights this afternoon in the New South Wales Cup preliminary final. Taking on the Windsor Wolves, Korbin Sims had Newcastle in front midway through the first half. But two tries before the break saw the Penrith feeder club take control. Zane Tetevano scored in the final minute, but the Knights had left their run too late, losing 36-32.
