JETS SUFFER 4 GOAL LOSS AGAINST MELBOURNE CITY

The Jets are clinging to the slimmest of finals hopes in the W-League, after a four-nil loss to Melbourne City. The home side opened the scoring when Tameka Butt was taken down. City made it two-nil shortly after, thanks to a Steph Catley header. Arin Wright thought she’d pegged one back for the Jets, only to be ruled offside. The hosts then sealed the win with two second half goals. Newcastle is now six points outside the top four with two rounds to go. (AUDIO IN PARTS)

STENGEL RULED OUT FOR UP TO THREE WEEKS

Another injury blow for the Jets’ W-League side, with Katie Stengel out for most of the remaining matches. The American striker has suffered a stress fracture in her ankle, and will be in a moon boot for two to three weeks, before being assessed again. She’s been one of the Jets’ best for the last two W-League campaigns. Meanwhile, Cassidy Davis will be assessed before training tomorrow, after injuring her knee. (VISION ONLY)

TOUGH ROUND FOR BOTH JETS MEN & WOMEN

Adelaide have claimed a late 2-1 win over Newcastle in the A-League. The Jets were on track for a point after equalising late in the game, before a penalty in stoppage time broke their hearts. Craig Goodwin made no mistake, giving the Reds their first victory in four games. Ernie Merrick says his side is devastated. But the Jets will have to regroup quickly – they host the Roar on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the W-League Jets have slipped to second last on the ladder, after their clash with Adelaide on Monday morning ended in similar fashion. Newcastle went down to the Reds 3-2 in a frantic final few minutes.

TAYLOR SMITH AWAITING SCAN RESULTS

The W-League Jets have a bye this weekend, but they won’t be resting up – instead, they’ll head to the Gold Coast for two friendlies against the Chinese national team. “It also gives some of the girls who haven’t got game time the opportunity to play. Hopefully we see Tara Andrews getting some game time, which is good for her, and it helps us coming into the second half of the season coming back and focusing on thing we need to improve on.” American import Taylor Smith won’t travel, she’s waiting for scan results on a knee injury she suffered against Perth. W-LEAGUE | CONTROVERSY AND INJURY FOR THE JETS IN THE WEST

Brisbane has caused a big upset in the W-League, beating the previously undefeated Melbourne Victory 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile Jets coach Craig Deans says he’s sick of his side suffering because of incorrect decisions, after Larissa Crummer was red-carded in Saturday night’s clash with the Glory. American import Taylor Smith also suffered a knee injury in the two-all draw.
