DRIVER SERIOUSLY BURNED AFTER TWO-TRUCK COLLISION NEAR MOREE

A driver is being treated for serious burns, after a collision between two trucks in the north of the state yesterday. Around 2:30pm on Thursday, a B-Double and a semi trailer collided on the Newell Highway, about 25km north of Moree. Both trucks caught on fire as a result of the impact. The driver of the B-Double suffered serious burns. Investigations are continuing.

TRUCK COLLISION CLAIMS TWO LIVES NEAR MOREE

Two people have died in a head-on collision at Moree near Tamworth this afternoon. Just after 4.15, emergency services were called to the Newell Highway about three kilometres north of the River Road after two trucks crashed. It’s believed the two people who died were the drivers. Police are investigating and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

WOMAN CHARGED AFTER POLICE PURSUIT IN STATE’S FAR NORTH

A woman has been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s far north yesterday. Around 3pm on Friday, police were patrolling Edward Street in Moree when they attempted to stop a maroon Holden Statesman for a random breath test. A pursuit was engaged when the driver failed to stop, but was terminated shortly after when the Holden Statesman travelled into a grassed area on Boland Drive. The Holden Statesman then allegedly collided with a White Toyota Landcruiser utility and a White Subaru Forrester whilst approaching the intersection of Edward and Anne Street. The 32-year-old female driver of the Holden Statesman was taken to hospital for blood and urine testing. Among other charges, she was charged with not stopping during a police pursuit, driving dangerously, negligent driving, and not giving particulars to police. The drivers of the other vehicles were …

GUNS AND AMMUNITION STOLEN NEAR MOREE

Five firearms and more than 200 rounds of ammunition has been stolen from a property near Moree. Police say the property on Kiwora Road at Bingara was broken into sometime between 10am last Friday and 6:30pm on Monday. Two double-barel shotguns and three bolt action .22 calibre rifles were taken from a safe inside a shed. No other items were stolen.

MAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR IN MOREE

A woman has been questioned by police, following the death of a man who was hit by a car in Moree this morning. Police were called to Oak Street shortly before 6 o’clock – witnesses say the man was dragged for a short distance before the car stopped. The man was freed by police and paramedics and taken to Moree Hospital, but died a short time later. (NO VISION OR AUDIO)

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF GLEN TURNER’S DEATH

Today marks one year since Tamworth man Glen Turner was fatally shot on a property near Moree. On Friday, the Office of Environment and Heritage compliance officer’s name was added to the International Ranger Federation Honour Roll. The list names around 60 people, who lost their lives on the job, from several countries across the globe. Mr Turner’s family have also asked members of the Tamworth community to plant a tree in their own backyards, to remember him.
