FORMER GUNNEDAH JUNIOR HARRY WILSON NAMED IN JUNIOR WALLABIES SQUAD

His name has never been too far from the selectors note pad – the last six-months seeing Gunnedah rugby junior Harry Wilson secure plenty of honours. Now, the backrower has earned a green and gold jersey, scoring a place in the junior Wallabies under-20s training squad. The junior Wallabies will contest the World Championships in Argentina in June. The former Red Devils player signed a two-year contract with the Queensland Reds, late last year. 90-YEAR-OLD MAN MISSING FROM PORT STEPHENS

Police are seeking the help of the public to locate a man missing from Port Stephens. Barry Greentree was last seen at his home on Sailfish Street at Corlette at around 11 o’clock last Thursday morning. It’s believed the 90-year-old could be headed for Tamworth or Casino in a blue Hyundai sedan with NSW registration BSF-74H. He’s described as being of Caucasian appearance with a solid build, around 160cm to 165cm tall, with grey hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

WORK TO BEGIN ON GUNNEDAH OVERPASS PROJECT

It’s been seven years in the making, and now, work on Gunnedah’s new overpass is finally set to begin. After lengthy delays, the rebuilding of Warrabungle Street will start on Monday, allowing for a new bridge across the railway line. The $62-million dollar project has been high on the community’s wishlist, with the completed overpass expected to vastly improve safety and freight connectivity in the area. At this stage, it’s hoped work will finish up mid-2021.

RACING TO RESUME AT GUNNEDAH GREYHOUND TRACK IN JANUARY FOLLOWING UPGRADE

The Gunnedah Greyhound Racing Club is on the verge of re-opening its gates, following a substantial upgrade to a section of the track. The club’s been closed for 10 months due to animal welfare issues. A $480-thousand grant from the state government has seen it upgrade and modernize its facilities, with trials expected to be carried out early in the New Year. PORCHETTA RETURNS TO GUNNEDAH IN 2019

Gunnedah’s cultural celebration of Italian food and beverages, will return in 2019 after a three-year hiatus. Porchetta will move to the Gunnedah Jockey Club, thanks to a $20-thousand state government grant, from the ‘Back to the Track’ fund. Another cash splash from the same fund will see the town’s greyhound track host a TAB evening during the week of AgQuip NOTE: VISION ONLY
