ALLEGED ATTEMPTED CARJACKER ESCAPES POLICE CUSTODY

A teenager, wanted in relation to an alleged attempted carjacking on the Gold Coast, has mistakenly been released from police custody. Police say the 15-year-old was in a cell at the Southport Watchhouse, charged with attempted robbery threatening violence. He was sharing the cell with another boy who was due for release, and when police called out his name, the 15-year-old stepped forward and was accidentally allowed to leave. Officers chased after him, but he escaped. The boy is described as Caucasian in appearance, of a slim build, around 176 centimetres tall, with light brown hair and blue eyes. 50-YEAR-OLD EXTRADITED TO QUEENSLAND TO FACE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES

A man will be extradited from Newcastle to Queensland today to face charges, following a domestic incident on the Gold Coast. It’s alleged the 50-year-old assaulted, choked and threw petrol over a 45-year-old woman at an address in Upper Coomera in late March. The man is expected to face charges including choking, suffocating, strangulation associated with domestic violence and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm associated with domestic violence offence. He is scheduled to face court on April 7.

ICE AND MORE THAN $100,000 IN CASH SEIZED ON THE GOLD COAST

Half a kilo of the drug ice and more than $100,000 in cash have been seized by police on the Gold Coast over the weekend. Police say that just before 10am on Saturday, they stopped a man, believed to be a Hells Angel OMCG member, walking along the Gold Coast Highway in Miami. They allege the man had more than $40,000 is cash in a pillowcase and a key to a rental car. The rental car was located outside an address in Miami, and a further $75,000 in cash and approximately 500 grams of ice were allegedly found during a search of the vehicle. The 36-year-old man was charged with one count of possessing dangerous drug, and two counts of possessing tainted property. He is due to appear in court this morning.

MAN WOUNDED WITH A BROKEN BOTTLE IN GOLD COAST ALTERCATION

A man has been injured with a broken bottle in a fight on the Gold Coast. At around six last night, a group of men were at a licenced premises at Santa Maria Court in Burleigh Waters, when a fight broke out between them and another male. Police report he left the scene and returned a shortly after with a group of his own. A second fight then broke out, during which a man received a wound to his upper chest. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

MERCEDES CORBY TO APPOSE AVO

Mercedes Corby will oppose an AVO being taken out against her after an alleged dispute between Corby and former friend Trudy Todd. The pair opened a tapas bar on the Gold Coast last year, which is believed to have gone out of business. Ms Todd said outside court the dispute between her and Corby didn’t relate to the tapas bar. Corby sought for the case to be adjourned during a brief appearance at Tweed Heads Local Court today. Corby claimed she had only received written statements from the applicant after arriving at court, and disagreed with some of the contents. The matter has been adjourned until March 13.

WOULD-BE GOLD COAST ROBBER COMES AWAY EMPTY-HANDED

Gold Coast police are on the lookout for a man after an attempted hold up a service station over the weekend. Around 3.30am on Sunday, a man entered the Marine Parade business in Southport, armed with a large knife. He threatened staff and demanded cash, but fled the scene empty-handed. No one was injured. The man was wearing dark jeans, a long-sleeved dark top and had a black shirt wrapped around the lower part of his face.

FEMALE GOLD COAST ESCAPEES ON THE RUN

Two female prisoners are on the run after escaping from a low custody facility in the Gold Coast hinterland. Charlotte Bowman, 19, and Jahnessa Jerome, 24, went missing from the Numinbah Correction Centre just before midnight last night. Bowman is serving one year for common assault while Jerome is serving one year and three months for assaulting police. Bowman is described as having a fair complexion, blonde hair, and is 160cm tall. She has the tattoo “CODIE” on her left wrist and “RJB” on her right wrist. Jerome is described as having a dark complexion and dark hair with red colour through it. She is 173cm tall with two heart tattoos on her left hand, the word “DAMIEN” tattooed on her left inner forearm. She also has a heart/scroll tattoo on her left elbow area.

FAMILY HOME OF 35 YEARS DESTROYED BY FIRE

A family have escaped without injury after their home was destroyed by a fire on the Gold Coast overnight. It’s believed the fire began around 9pm, with neighbours using garden hoses to battle the flames until fire crews arrived. Firefighters believe the fire began in the rear of the property. The family had lived at the home in Broadbeach Waters for more than 35 years.

MAN ALLEGEDLY RETURNS POSITIVE BREATH TEST WITH SON IN THE VEHICLE

A driver allegedly returned a breath test six times the legal alcohol limit on the Gold Coast overnight. As part of the Christmas road safety campaign in Queensland, police intercepted a 44-year-old Labrador man at Witherin, who allegedly provided a reading of 0.3. Police say the man’s adolescent son was a front seat passenger. As officers drove the boy home, the man allegedly exited the police vehicle and became abusive. He’s been issued with a court appearance notice.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE OVER VIOLENT GOLD COAST ROBBERY

Police have released CCTV images of a man they are hoping will be able to assist them in relation to a violent robbery on the Gold Coast earlier this year. Around 6:20pm on November 30, on a man entered a convenience store on Aubrey Street in Surfers Paradise. After asking for cigarettes, the man tried to leave the store without paying, before he struck a male staff member in the face when he attempted to intervene. The 26-year-old staff member suffered bruising to his face. The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his early 40s, balding with dark hair.
