POLICEMAN INJURED DURING GOLD COAST DISTURBANCE

A police officer has been knocked unconscious during an altercation on the Gold Coast overnight. Around 2:30am on Sunday, police responded to reports of a disturbance involving a large group of people on Orchid Avenue in Surfers Paradise. While attending the scene, a male police officer was knocked to the ground during a scuffle, striking his head and losing consciousness. The 29-year-old officer was taken to hospital in a stable condition. A 22-year-old man from Coomera was subsequently charged with serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm, and obstructing police. He is expected to appear in court on June 13.

CAR STOLEN FOLLOWING ALLEGED ASSAULT ON THE GOLD COAST

A man has had his vehicle stolen, following an alleged assault in his home on the Gold Coast. About 10:30pm on Friday, two men and a woman entered a unit on Price Street in Nerang, where one of the intruders allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old male occupant. The assailants then took the man’s car keys and drove off in his vehicle – a white 2011 Ford Falcon utility with Queensland registration 06RJL. The car was last seen on Price Street. The victim was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

HOUSE FIRE ON THE GOLD COAST TREATED AS SUSPICIOUS

Queensland police are investigating a suspicious house fire on the Gold Coast overnight. Around 10:30pm, emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on McPhail Street in Coomera. They arrived to find a house well alight. It’s believed the building isn’t occupied, and no one was injured during the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Investigations continue.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE DESTROYS MOTORBIKES AT GOLD COAST SHOP

Motorbikes at a Gold Coast business have been destroyed in a suspicious fire overnight. A passing police patrol noticed smoke pouring from Bike Sales Qld, on Lawrence Drive in Nerang, about 11.15pm. Ten fire trucks were called into fight the fire at the used motorcycle shop, with a large amount of petrol fuelling the blaze. “This is a very large fire, and it’s taken quite a deal of resources from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), we have approximately 10 fire appliances, specialist appliances from Brisbane, also aerial appliances from Surfers Paradise and surrounding areas,”  QFES Inspector Chris Robinson said. A large number of motorbikes were destroyed and the shop has been extensively damaged. Once the building is deemed safe to enter, investigators will work to establish the cause of the blaze. UPDATED: DRIVER CHARGED AFTER GOLD COAST HIT AND RUN

UPDATE: Police have charged a 33-year-old Broadbeach man with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm after a hit and run on the Gold Coast yesterday. A 29-year-old man was struck by a car as he was standing beside a parked vehicle on Laycock Street around 5pm yesterday. He was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle will appear in court on May 26. ———————————— Gold Coast police are hunting the driver of a black Holden Cruze after a pedestrian was struck by the car – The incident captured on CCTV. The 29 year old pedestrian – a taxi driver – was standing next to his car when we was hit and thrown into the air, before the car sped off. He’s now in a stable condition. (VISION ONLY)
