TRAILBIKE RIDER KILLED IN CRASH NEAR CASINO

A man has died after the trail bike he was riding hit a tree south of Casino in the state’s north. It’s understood the man was one of three riders travelling along Carwong Road at Rappville at around 2 o’clock yesterday, when he lost control of the motorcycle. Emergency services attended the crash, however were unable to save the man.

FIRE CREWS BATTLING BLAZE SOUTH OF CASINO

A watch and act warning has been put in place for a bushfire burning at Ellangowan south of Casino. The fire is burning in the vicinity of Wrench’s Road and Ellangowan Road. Residents in the area are urged to activate their bushfire survival plan. A second watch and act has been put in place for a fire burning further south near West Bungawalbin. CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING CASINO POLICE RAID

A 36-year-old man has been charged, after police allegedly found drugs and stolen furniture during a raid in the state’s Northern Rivers region. Around 1pm yesterday, police raided a property on Johnston Street at Casino, allegedly locating methamphetamine, MDMA, knuckle dusters, and ammunition. Police will allege they also located household furniture, which was stolen during an aggravated break in at an Oak Avenue home earlier in the year. Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Graham Place. He was charged with a string of offences, and is expected to face Lismore Bail Court later today. A second man, aged 25, was also arrested as a result of the raid. He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice, and will face court next week.

WOMAN DIES AFTER CAR HITS TREE NEAR CASINO

A woman believed to be in her 40’s has died after her car crashed into a tree near Casino. Police were called to Stratheden, west of Casino this morning, following reports of a single-vehicle incident. Road blocks and diversions were put in place, while paramedics worked on the unidentified woman. It’s not yet clear what caused the accident.

CASINO MAN FACES COURT OVER ALLEGED POLICE PURSUIT

An 18-year-old learner driver has appeared in court, charged over an alleged pursuit in which a police vehicle was rammed in Lismore. It’s alleged police spotted a stolen car on Uralba Street, around 1 o’clock on Saturday morning, attempting to stop the vehicle. The car allegedly failed to stop, reaching speeds of up to 90 kilometres an hour before hitting a parked car. The driver then allegedly rammed a police car intentionally. A man from Casino, was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Lismore Police Station, where he allegedly returned a mid-range blood alcohol level.
