MIXED RESULTS FOR COAST TRIO AT SNAPPER

Avoca’s Wade Carmichael has fallen short in the opening round at the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast. He posted the highest score of the heat – an 8.93, but it wasn’t enough to defeat three time World Champion Mick Fanning. Adrian Buchan will also have do it the hard way – finishing third behind Jeremy Flores and World Tour rookie Davey Cathels. The news was better for Copacabana’s Matt Wilkinson, who downed Kelly Slater and Conner Coffin to advance to Round three.

THREE BIG NAMES ADDED TO THE DRAW FOR SURFEST 2016

A few days after world number 19 Adrian Buchan announced he’d be competing at Surfest, more big names have indicated they could head to Merewether next month. WSL officials today told NBN News six-time world champion Steph Gilmore is keen to use the event for her return from injury, ahead of the first WCT event on the Gold Coast. With Surfest restored to a QS 6000, former champion Sally Fitzgibbons is also likely to return. Meanwhile, men’s world number six Julian Wilson will reportedly take a shot at the Mark Richards trophy.

ACE BUCHAN AND JESSE ADAM HEADING TO SURFEST

Merewether Surfboard Club has been granted a wildcard into the Australian Boardriders Battle national final at Cronulla on January 23. Meanwhile, in a major boost for Surfest, world number 19 Adrian Buchan has confirmed he’ll be competing. The Central Coast local told NBN News he’ll use the event as a hit-out before the world tour begins on the Gold Coast in March. And Merewether’s Jesse Adam will also compete at Surfest after being awarded the Surfing NSW wildcard.
