GAV’S WEATHER: FRESH SOUTHERLY MAKES FOR A COLD NIGHT

The main feature is the fast spinning low in the Tasman. This is generating a large swell and strong southerly winds that are buffeting the coast today. Tomorrow expect a mostly fine day for the majority of the region after a very cold start inland and across the northern NSW ranges. The Newcastle coast to Port Stephens will see a shower or two. Strong southerly winds easing with large swell abating.

GAV’S SURF REPORT: FRESH SWELL ON THE WAY

A fresh south easterly swell is on the way for the weekend. To make the most of it you’ll have to head into the southern protected point breaks and corners. Swell will build during Friday. You have an incoming tide during the morning so for my money Saturday morning looks to be the pick. By Sunday the winds will be easing but so to will be the swell. Good luck.

WEATHER: TIME TO CHILL BACK DOWN

It is almost another cloudless nation yet again. The weak front in the south east is revealed by the cloud and a the pulse of jet stream cloud is streaking in across the west and still disappearing over the very dry heart of the nation. A weak trough sits over the eastern half of QLD. It will move across the region tomorrow. This will chill things back down while triggering some wet weather for the Hunter before spreading producing coastal showers. So a cold front is going to sweep in across the region tomorrow triggering showers while dropping temperatures.

GAV’S WEATHER – WARMTH TO RETURN

A lot of cloud is passing over the region keeping temperatures down while producing widespread patchy light rain. It remains clear across the rest of the nation. No major weather systems are affecting the country at the moment. Tomorrow the sun returns, and the mercury will begin to rise again, warming up over the next couple of days.

GAV’S WEATHER – WINTER RETURNS

As the latest front moves east it will allow cold polar air to move in, so temperatures will fall significantly tonight. Central and Northern Australia is still sunny and clear. Yet another front is sweeping in across the South-West, delivering more rain in the west. Cold and windy with some showers set to skim the coastal fringe from the Central Coast to the Port Macquarie. Large dangerous swell will develop tonight.

GAV’S WEATHER – AUGUST HEAT TO PEAK

A trail of jet stream cloud is making its way across the Hunter delivering a brief unexpected shower. As the front moves east, it will allow some slightly cooler air to move in behind it. Ahead of it things are going to get even hotter for us with the mercury set to peak tomorrow, with hot and windy conditions. Another passing front will affect the Hunter with some cloud and the risk of another brief shower. Temperatures will hit the high 20s and low 30s across most of the broadcast region.

GAV’S WEATHER – AN AUGUST HEAT WAVE

Clear across the northern half of the country as the big dry and record breaking winter heat rolls on, with some of the heat spilling in over the region this week. A trail of jet stream cloud is making its way across the southern half of the nation. Yet another storm front is making its way over the South-West. As the front moves east it will allow some slightly cooler air to move in behind it. Ahead of it things are going to get even hotter for us with the mercury to peak in the coming days. A very warm to hot August day is on way across the region with dry North-West winds.
