KOSTJASYN JOINS KNIGHTS

The Knights have officially announced the signing of NRL premiership winner, Rory Kostjasyn. The 29-year-old former Central Coast junior has played 125 games for Melbourne and North Queensland, winning the title with the Cowboys in 2015. Kostjasyn will link with the Knights on a two-year deal, starting with Newcastle’s pre-season program which begins on November 1.

NARROW LOSS FOR FEARNLEY AT CHICAGO MARATHON

Newcastle’s Kurt Fearnley has fallen agonisingly short in his quest to win back-to-back Chicago Marathons. Just three weeks after finishing second to Marcel Hug at the Paralympics, Fearnley again became engaged in an intriguing battle with his rival. The Australian made a big push on the final hill, and led in the closing stages. Fearnley was initially awarded the victory, but Hug was eventually declared the winner by point zero two of a second. Kurt has another chance to beat his rival in New York next month.

RUSSELL MAKES A STEADY START AT BATHURST

Returning to Bathurst and the Hunter’s Aaren Russell, has made a steady start to his second appearance in the Supercars event at Mount Panorama. Russell finished 23rd out of 27 cars in the second practice this morning. He then joined forces with team mate Andre Heimgartner to move up to 21st in the day’s final session.
