OZ POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Some of the most powerful people in the country are resting their weary bones, after competing in the Australian Powerlifting Championships in Newcastle. In the women’s division, weighing 76 kilograms, Anne Mort from Ashtonfield lifted 420 kilos across the three powerlifting disciplines. In the men’s, Western Australia’s Nathan Baxter lifted an incredible 900 kilos during the championships.

Further frustration for the Newcastle Jets who can’t play trialist Jesper Hakansson in tomorrow night’s (Saturday) pre-season cup match against Adelaide. The Danish mid-fielder arrived earlier in the week but his former European club has not issued the required clearance.

JETS DANISH DELIGHT

The Newcastle Jets will welcome former Denmark Under-21 international Jesper Hakansson tomorrow (Tuesday) for a trial, with a view to keeping the attacking mid-fielder for the A-League season. Hakansson, now 27, has played in Sweeden and in The Netherlands while more recently was with Lyngby in the Danish Superliga.
