PAPADATOS CLAIMS ULTIMATE PRIZE IN PORTUGAL

NO HEADACHES IN BACK FOUR WITH ASPRO SIGNING

The Mariners have announced the signing of another former Wanderer – Central defender Johnathan Aspropotamitis on a one-year deal. The 21 year-old made over 40 appearances for Western Sydney since his debut in 2015. He’s also represented Australia at junior level, including the AFC U-23 Championship China 2018 Qualifiers held in Myanmar.

JETS SIGN NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL ON TWO YEAR DEAL

Jets CEO Lawrie McKinna says the club is open to signing another high-profile marquee, even if Ronald Vargas extends his stay. Newcastle officials today confirmed the signing of New Zealand international, Matthew Ridenton, on a two-year deal. The 22-year-old midfielder has made 72 appearances for the Phoenix, playing part of his career under current Jets coach, Ernie Merrick. Ridenton was voted Wellington’s best under-23 player in the club’s disappointing 2017/18 campaign, starting all but one game.

IN HER TIME DRAWS BARRIER 8 FOR DOOMBEN 10,000

Newcastle trainer Ben Smith says his mare, In Her Time, has never travelled better, after being taken to Brisbane for Saturday’s Doomben 10,000. Smith was happy to draw barrier eight for the $700,000 Group One race, while the Kris Lees trained Le Romain drew 13. Lees will make a decision tomorrow on whether to send the horse to Queensland, or to Scone for the Luskin Star Stakes.
