WEAPONS DISCOVERED IN ALLEGEDLY STOLEN CAR AT KINGSCLIFF

Four people have been charged after weapons were discovered in an allegedly stolen car on the state’s Far North Coast. Officers found the Ford Focus in the carpark of a hotel on Marine Parade at Kingscliff on Thursday afternoon. It’s alleged when police entered the venue, a number of people left the hotel. Two 26-year-old men were located in another vehicle at a nearby shopping centre, while a 24-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were arrested in nearby Pearl Street. A search of the Ford Focus uncovered a number of items including a firearm, a machete, knives and prohibited drugs. The 24-year-old man was charged with a string of offences including possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place, while the 26-year-old man was charged with a weapons related offence. CRITICAL INCIDENT INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AFTER NORTH COAST CRASH

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a crash at Tweed Heads, which claimed the life of a 22-year-old man. Police attempted to stop a speeding Mazda hatch on the M1 at around 9:30 last night, pursuing the vehicle for a short time. The pursuit was stopped due to the safety concerns, with officers later finding the hatch had hit a tree. The driver was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital, where he later died.

FIVE ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED POLICE PURSUIT

Parts of Byron Bay were placed into lock down today, following a high speed police pursuit earlier this morning. Officers spotted a stolen Mercedes Benz vehicle on Hayman Street in Ballina. When they approached the men in the area, they entered the vehicle and fled the scene. The stolen vehicle was located a short time later in Byron Bay. All three men aged 14, 17 and 18 were later arrested and taken into police custody.

REMINDER TO MOTORCYCLISTS FOLLOWING TRAGIC WEEKEND

Police are reminding motorcyclists to ride to their skill levels, after a string of accidents saw five riders killed over the weekend across New South Wales. Among them, a man in his 50s, who was killed when his bike collided with a tip truck and a Subaru Outback on Bangalow Road at Clunes on Friday. A man was also killed when his trail bike hit a tree at Rappville south of Casino yesterday afternoon. The deaths bring the state’s road toll to 94. (VISION ONLY)

KEVIN HOGAN PRE-SELECTED FOR PAGE

Federal member for Page, Kevin Hogan, continues to feel the consequences of his decision to move to the crossbench. Yesterday, he was pre-selected by the Nationals to contest the seat in the upcoming election. But he first had to defeat a motion to delay the vote, in order to allow for another candidate to step forward. “This has been no walk in the park I’ve had some very uncomfortable phone calls from people in Canberra who are not happy, this is not a time to be weak this is a time where you have to stand by your convictions and you have to be very strong in that.” If re-elected, Mr Hogan says he’ll review his position on the crossbench.
