FOUR NSW COUNTRY JUNIOR RUGBY TEAMS READY TO IGNITE CITY RIVALRY

Some of the state’s finest junior rugby players will be on display tomorrow, as Country goes head-to-head with City in Tamworth. The annual carnival will feature four New South Wales Country teams, ranging from under-14’s to under 16’s, along with an under-17’s girls side. New South Wales Country has become its own rugby institution over the years, with numerous players going on to higher honours. The first match kicks-off tomorrow at 9.30am, at Tamworth’s Scully Park. STACEY PORTER LEADS AUSSIE SOFTBALL TEAM TO WIN IN OPENING MATCH OF WORLD CHAMPS

The Australian softball team begun its World Championships campaign on the right note today, with a 7-1 win over Venezuela in Japan. Captained by Tamworth’s Stacey Porter, Australia came from behind to open the tournament in emphatic style. REGION’S TOP ATHLETES TO BE RECOGNISED AT NIAS AWARDS NIGHT

Some of the region’s finest athletes will be recognised when the Northern Inland Academy of Sport holds the first of its two award nights this Saturday. The event is held in honour of the tireless hard work of athletes and their ongoing commitment to sport. Among the highlights will be guest speaker Matt Denny. Already a Rio Olympian in the discus throw, Denny also recently won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in the madcap hammer throw.
