TAMWORTH’S NICK KAY HELPS AUSTRALIAN BOOMERS QUALIFY FOR FIBA WORLD CUP

Tamworth basketballer Nick Kay has booked his ticket to the 2019 FIBA World Cup, following the Australian Boomers’ win over Iran in Melbourne. Their 29-point victory helping secure their berth, after more than a year of qualifying matches. They occupy top spot in Group F, and host Qatar later tonight in their final qualifier at home. AUSSIE SCHOOLBOY CONTINUES PURSUIT FOR NRL CONTRACT WITH ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE

He left for England with high hopes of securing an NRL contract from his involvement with the Australian Schoolboys team. A prospect that’s growing game-by-game for Farrer High’s Max Altus. The hooker playing another starring role off the bench for the Aussies, in their 30 to 18 win over Lancashire on the weekend. TAMWORTH’S JOHN PORCH SCORES 54-POINTS IN FIRST LEG OF WORLD RUGBY SEVENS

From a personal perspective, the opening leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series couldn’t have gone any better for Tamworth’s John Porch. The Aussie flyer finished the Dubai tournament as the carnival’s leading point scorer. Porch scoring 54-points in total, as Australia finished in fourth place overall. GROUP 4 WOMEN’S NINES WRAPS-UP AS REPRESENTATIVE TEAM IS ANNOUNCED

The Group 4 women’s rugby league nines wrapped up yesterday at Tamworth’s Ken Chillingworth Oval. The girls from Gunnedah won both of their matches in hot conditions, with both South West Robins teams also recording victories.
