UNE LIONS PRODUCE THEIR BEST PERFORMANCE OF AON 7s SERIES ON THE GOLD COAST

The UNE Lions showed their full capability on the weekend, in round four of the Australian University Sevens Series on the Gold Coast. The Lions dropping only one match across six games – their opening clash against Macquarie University. The UNE girls also recording an impressive 24-17 win over Queensland yesterday morning, a team that’s dominated the competition from the beginning. NSW COUNTRY EAGLES SUFFER HEART-BREAKING ONE-POINT LOSS TO BRISBANE CITY

The New South Wales Country Eagles suffered a heart-breaking one-point loss to Brisbane City yesterday, at Camden Rugby Park. The Eagles trailed 14-nill at the break, before going on to score 27 second-half points. The reliable boot of Quade Cooper getting City home, as both teams scored four tries each. Glen Innes’ Alex Newsome, scoring one of the Eagles five-pointers, in their 28-27 defeat. The Eagles now head to Tamworth, where they’ll face Queensland Country at Scully Park on Saturday. COMPETITION HEATS-UP AT AELEC AHEAD OF WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Day three of the Indoor Showjumping Championships is underway at AELEC. Tonight sees the World Cup competitors take to the arena, where big things, await the winner. (“With the World Cup qualifier, it’s one of I think 12 shows in Australia, the highest point score at the end of it basically gets a trip overseas to compete against the best in the world.”) And there’s no shortage of willing riders, with competitors branching beyond the North West and New England regions. (“We’ve got Katie Laurie from New Zealand competing, she lives up near Armidale now with her husband, we’ve got riders from Queensland right down south of New South Wales.”)
