FIREARM AND DRUGS ALLEGEDLY UNCOVERED DURING VEHICLE STOP

A 30-year-old male has been charged with firearm and drug possession offences after being stopped by police in East Maitland overnight. Around 11.40pm, officers were patrolling Burke Street, when they noticed a vehicle doing a U-Turn at the end of the street. Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver and his female passenger. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly located a firearm, three mobile phones and drug paraphernalia. Police then searched the driver and allegedly found an amount of prohibited drugs. He was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station. He was refused bail and will face Maitland Local Court today.

CENTRAL COAST EXPLOSION LEAVES TWO MEN IN SERIOUS CONDITION

Two men remain in a serious condition in hospital, after an explosion at a unit in East Gosford. Around 3pm, emergency services were called to Albany Street, following reports of an explosion. Two men, aged 23 and 25, sustained serious burns, while another 25-year-old man and an 11-month-old boy sustained minor injuries. All four were taken to Gosford Hospital for treatment. The cause is yet to be determined.

GAV’S WEATHER: RAIN FOR NORTH EAST NSW

Queensland remains the wettest place in the nation but North East New South Wales is now getting a piece of that, with rain under the cloud cover making its way across the north of the state. Queensland will continue to be awash with rain as the system moves further inland, crossing over into the Northern Territory, while the moist onshore winds will continue along the east coast. Rain over North East New South Wales and South East Queensland will ease into tomorrow, however the showers will continue along the coast as moderate to strong onshore winds settle in.

FATAL CRASH NEAR LAKE MACQUARIE

A 65-year-old man has died, after the car he was driving hit a power pole at Rathmines, near Lake Macquarie. Emergency services were called to Dorrington Road around 4:30 on Monday afternoon, where despite the best efforts of paramedics the driver couldn’t be saved. Initial inquiries suggest the man may have suffered a medical episode.
