DOLPHIN DILEMMA

Two dolphins stuck in a man made lake in Ballina are being monitored around the clock by a Sea World expert. The mother and her calf entered Lake Prospect almost two weeks ago but a sand bar is blocking their return to the ocean. Two attempts to free the dolphins were unsuccessful yesterday, and rescue crews are concerned their food supply will be run out. The dolphin expert will feed the pair bream and whiting until another rescue plan can be devised. “It’s going to be his sole job to try and get them to eat everyday or at least make sure they are eating and keep an eye on them,” said Rochelle Ferris of Australian Seabird Rescue. DOLPHINS TRAPPED IN LAKE

A major rescue operation was sparked in Ballina today to free two dolphins trapped in a man made lake. The mother and her calf swam into the estuary more than a week ago but haven’t been able to find their way out again.

TAMWORTH HOTEL SHUT DOWN

A Tamworth hotel has just been shut down for 72 hours, following a long-running drug investigation. Police swooped on the Fitzroy Hotel, marching out patrons at around 5.30 this afternoon. It follows the discovery of dozens of ecstacy tablets. Earlier today, officers charged a 22-year-old Tamworth man with supplying a prohibited drug he’s been refused bail. A 45-year-old employee of the pub has also been charged with knowingly taking part in the supply of drugs and other licensing offences. Police expect to make further arrests.

ICE BUST DENTS HUNTER DRUG TRADE

Lake Macquarie police have seized the equivalent of 10,000 hits of the drug ice, worth half a million dollars, that was headed for Newcastle. Two of the men arrested don’t fit the stereotype of suspected drug dealers, one is in his 60s, the other in his 70s.
