DRIVER INVOLVED IN HIT-AND-RUN OF 8-YEAR-OLD URGED TO CONTACT POLICE

Police are appealing for the driver involved in the hit-and-run of an 8-year-old boy on the Gold Coast to come forward. The boy was crossing Benowa Road near Slayter Avenue in Benowa around 8 o’clock on Thursday morning when he was hit by an orange hatchback. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and continued travelling north. The boy was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening leg injury. The driver of the vehicle, or any witnesses, are being urged to contact police.

DREAMWORLD CEO STEPS DOWN

A change of command is underway at the Parent Company of theme Park Dreamworld. Deborah Thomas, CEO at the time of last year’s tragedy, in which four people died when a ride malfunctioned, has stepped down. Dreamworld was shut for 6 weeks … suffering heavy financial losses. Ms Thomas will be replaced by former Nine Network executive Simon Kelly.

NEW PICTURES CAPTURE BOAT EXPLOSION

CCTV has captured a father and son’s lucky escape after their boat burst into flames at a marina on the Gold Coast on Monday. The video shows the 25-foot Bertram boat making its way through the waterway at the Runaway Bay marina when bright orange flames appear. A 19-year-old man in a high-vis vest can be seen leaping from the hull of the boat to the safety of the deck as the fire continues to spread. The teenager and his father were both forced to jump into the water, seeking refuge on a passing boat. Neither man was injured in the fire. Plumes of thick black smoke were later filmed engulfing the immediate area in wake of the explosion, which occurred about 4.18pm. The vessel had been re-fuelled minutes before the fire occurred. GOLD COAST TRIO TO FACE COURT AFTER ALLEGED ATTACKS

Three men will face court after allegedly assaulting two men in separate incidents on the Gold Coast. Between 3am and 3.30am yesterday morning, a man was walking along Surfers Paradise Boulevard in Surfers Paradise, when three men approached the man and allegedly struck him multiple times. Police say demands were also made for his wallet, before he was able to run away. A short time later, police allege a second man was also attacked. Investigations led police to charge and 18 and 19-year-old man with attempted robbery and affray, while a 20 year-old man has also been charged with attempted robbery.

POLICE VEHICLES RAMMED DURING GOLD COAST PURSUIT

A car has been driven into a number of vehicles, including two police cars, during an alleged pursuit on the Gold Coast, over the weekend. At about midday on Saturday, police attempted to intercept a vehicle on Nerang Street in Southport. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and drove away. Police later attempted to intercept the vehicle in the car park of a bottle shop on Heathwood Drive in Oxenford, but it was allegedly driven into three vehicles, including two police cars before the driver fled. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Fawn Street in Upper Coomera. Police have since charged a 35-year-old Helensvale woman and a 26-year-old Gold Coast with a number of related offences.

HANDGUN USED IN CARRARA HOLD UP

A man has been held up at gunpoint on the Gold Coast overnight. Police say around 7:30pm, the man was in the car park of a golf club in Carrara, when he was approached by another man who produced a handgun. He demanded car keys and fled the scene in a dark blue BMW SUV. The vehicle was last seen driving along Nerang-Broadbeach Road towards Nerang. The victim was uninjured during the incident. Police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist their inquiries. He is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 175cm tall, of a slim build with short dark hair.

MAN KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS ON THE GOLD COAST

Police are seeking any witnesses a serious assault on the Gold Coast overnight. Around 11:30pm, a man was walking along Griffith Street in Coolangatta when he became involved in an altercation with a group including two men and a woman. The man was knocked unconscious, and the group fled the scene on foot. The victim, aged 26, was transported to hospital with head injuries.

AUSTRALIAN SISTERS SPLASHED WITH ‘ACID’ IN LONDON CLUB

An Australian model and her sister have been caught up in an acid attack in a London nightclub. Isobella Fraser, 22, was visiting her sister Prue, 20, who works as a nanny in London at the time of the attack. The pair, who grew up in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Dudley, were among 12 people injured at the Mangle Club in East London, when a corrosive substance was thrown onto a crowd. Police say the incident was sparked by a fight and is not terror-related.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER SURFERS PARADISE STAND-OFF

A man, believed to have been armed with a machete, has been arrested after a stand-off with Gold Coast Police that lasted nearly two hours. Around 2:20am, police cordoned off a Surfers Paradise block, after a man in an apartment on Ferry Avenue made threats. The man was taken into custody just before 4am. An investigation into the incident is now underway.
