CHARGES LAID AFTER DISCOVERY OF GOLD COAST GUN FACTORY

A 36-year-old man has been charged with a number of firearm related offences, following the alleged discovery of a large scale weapons production facility late last year. Task force police executed search warrants on four residential properties and two business premises located on the Gold Coast last November. At one of the businesses in Nerang, police allegedly located an illicit weapons manufacturing facility containing drill presses, lathes, and other equipment used to produce fully automatic machine guns. Police also allegedly located four homemade machine guns, three silencers, ammunition, magazines, and other gun parts. A 36-year-old man was today charged with two counts of unlawfully possessing category R weapons and two counts of manufacturing weapons whilst not licensed. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court later this month.

EIGHT ARRESTED AFTER SEARCH WARRANTS ON THE GOLD COAST

$900,000 in cash and drugs have been seized as part of a police operation targeting former Hells Angels and Comancheros OMCG members from the Gold Coast. Police allege former OMCG members were involved in transporting drugs from Sydney to the Gold Coast, and that a number of “safe houses” were used in the commission of the crimes. A total of 12 warrants were executed at addresses on the Gold Coast yesterday. Eight people were arrested on a total of 38 charges, including possession and production of dangerous drug, and weapons charges. Police seized $158,000 cash, and $745,000 worth of drugs including 89 mature cannabis plants, 40 cannabis plant seedlings, 154 grams of cocaine, 8 vials of steroids, and 192 steroid tablets.

SECURITY DOORS DENY GOLD COAST ROBBER

Police are on the lookout for a man after the attempted armed robbery of a Gold Coast service station. Around 2:30am on Friday, a man drove an older model navy blue Toyota Tarago into the business on Gainsborough Drive in Pimpama. The man approached the locked front doors of the service station armed with a large knife, and carrying a black bag. Staff kept the doors locked, and the man stabbed and kicked at the doors several times. The glass shattered but remained intact, and having been denied entry, the man got back into the vehicle in drove off. No one was injured in the incident. Police say the offender was wearing a dark blue/ black hoodie, dark blue/black pants, black shoes and grey clothing over his face at the time of the incident.

QUEENSLAND MAN EXTRADITED OVER ALLEGED 2009 SEXUAL ASSAULT

A 29-year-old man from Queensland has been extradited to NSW over the alleged historical sexual abuse of a boy on the Central Coast. Police commenced an investigation following reports a young boy was sexually assaulted by a man known to him in 2009. With the assistance of Queensland Police, a 29-year-old man was arrested at Rockhampton on Wednesday, and he was subsequently extradidted to NSW. He appeared at Central Local Court yesterday, and was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16. Police will allege the man sexually assaulted the boy – then aged seven – when visiting at his home. He will reappear in court next week.

COUNTERFEIT OPERATION DISCOVERED

A man has appeared in court on the Gold Coast in relation to the alleged production of counterfeit money. Police executed a search warrant at a Broadbeach apartment on Tuesday last week, where they allegedly located and seized counterfeit currency. Police also allegedly discovered electronic printers, scanners and drug related items. A 25-year-old Broadbeach man was charged with making counterfeit money, possessing counterfeit money, uttering counterfeit money and fraud. A 23-year-old woman, also arrested at the Broadbeach residence, was charged on unrelated matters.

MAN HOSPITALISED AFTER FIGHT AT A GOLD COAST TAXI RANK

A man has been hospitalised, and another charged with grievous bodily harm, after an alleged assault on the Gold Coast. At around 6pm yesterday, an altercation broke out between three men at a taxi rank on Casino Drive in Broadbeach. A 38-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his ear, and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment. A 35-year-old man from Shepparton was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. He will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

TWO CHARGED OVER ALLEGED GOLD COAST GRAFFITI

Two men have been charged over a sting of graffiti attacks on local businesses, government buildings and other property on the Gold Coast. Police say the offences occurred in the Coolangatta CBD in the early hours of Saturday, May 27. A 19-year-old man from Tweed Heads West and a 20-year-old man from Palm Beach have been charged with more than 12 wilful damage offences (graffiti). Police say the vandalism amounted to $2,500 damage. The men have been issued with Notices to Appear at Coolangatta Magistrates Court on June 19.

12-YEAR-OLD MISSING ON THE GOLD COAST

Concerns are held for a young girl missing on the Gold Coast. The 12-year-old was was last seen walking along George Street in Southport around 5pm yesterday. She is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a slim build, blonde hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a black jumper and denim shorts.

GOLD COAST BOAT COLLISION CLAIMS WOMAN’S LIFE

A woman has died in a boat collision on the Gold Coast. Police say around 5:30pm yesterday, a tinny turned into the path of a large cruiser near Couran Cove at Broadwater causing the two boats to collide. A 33-year-old Brisbane woman in the smaller boat died at the scene. A second person on the smaller boat, a 41-year-old man, received a head injury and was taken to hospital in a stable condition. No one on the larger vessel was injured.
