GAV’S WEATHER: HOT AND COLD WEEKEND

A taste of spring is on the way on Saturday with temperatures well above average, while on Sunday south westerly winds will keep temperatures on the cold side. There remains no sight of rain, with most of the nation again sunny and dry. More frontal activity is on the way, but will only affect the far south east and south western corners of the country. The strongest of these fronts will reach us here on the east coast, but will be significantly weaker when it arrives. Expect it to be very warm ahead of its arrival, and very cold following it.

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MAN MISSING NEAR NIMBIN

Emergency services are continuing to search for a man missing in bushland near Nimbin in the state’s north. Damien Roadley was last heard from on Wednesday, with the dog squad, SES and VRA among those involved in the search at Blue Knob. Specialist crews have today been winched into a number of remote locations to check the bottom of gullies and ravines.

CCTV IMAGES RELEASED IN SUPERMARKET BREAK-IN INVESTIGATION

Police investigating a number of break-ins in the Hunter region have released CCTV images, in the hope of tracking down those involved. The images relate to two break-ins, one at Fletcher on January 12 and a second at Kurri Kurri on April 19. They show a group of up to four people forcing their way into the supermarkets using sledge hammers, block splitters and jemmy bars. A dark-blue duel cab ute, and a white sedan can also been seen. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

LIGHT RAIL TRADERS TO LAUNCH CLASS ACTION

Newcastle inner city traders will launch a class action against the state government, over loss of business they say has been caused by the light rail works in the city. 45 businesses have confirmed they’ll be signing on with Mitry Lawyers in a fight for compensation. The group will be supported by small business advocates from Sydney, who claim livelihoods have been affected by light rail construction there. (VISION ONLY)
