The Central Coast Mariners have endured a tough lesson in Asian football, going down to Chinese Super League team Jiangsu Sainty 2-1, in a warm-up match for the Asian Champions League. In near freezing temperatures, Matthew Osman scored the Mariners’ only goal. But the game wasn’t a total loss for the Central Coast, with the team gaining crucial knowledge of the Asian football culture and refereeing style.

RUGBY UNION VICTORIES A WIN FOR THE GAME ON THE CENTRAL COAST

The strength of rugby union on the Central Coast appears to be in good stead, following two successful campaigns. The region’s representative side easily beat Gordon 43 to 26 in a warm-up match for the New South Wales country championships, while the Central Coast Academy of Sport rugby union team claimed the annual Challenge Shield with a 17 points to 7 victory over the Hunter.
