AINT NO SUNSHINE FOR PADDLING ENVIRONMENTALLIST

It wasn’t a day to be outdoors, let alone on the water, but that didn’t stop one very determined man from championing his cause. 55-year-old Steve Posselt paddled into Newcastle Harbour on a journey from Brisbane to Sydney. The civil engineer is covering the 1000 kilometres in his kayak, to raise awareness of the environmental issues facing waterways on the east coast. At the end of his voyage, Steve Posselt will deliver 4,000 protest letters to the Environment Minister, and let’s just hope they’re drier than he is.

ANOTHER TRUCK ACCIDENT CREATES F-3 CHAOS

A semi trailer laden with crushed cars and scrap metal overturned at a roundabout near the F3 at Ourimbah. While no one was seriously injured, the accident did block one lane of the Old Pacific Highway for almost three hours. Police and the RTA coordinated traffic, before the truck was righted just before peak hour.

ELECTRICAL FAULT BLAMED FOR HOUSE FIRE

Initial investigations reveal an electrical fault was the likely cause of a fire which caused extensive damage to a house in Kanwal. The blaze broke out in the front room of the Phyllis Avenue premises. Firefighters from Hamlyn Terrace, Toukley and Doyalson worked for three hours to extinguish the flames.
