ELECTRICAL FAULT BLAMED FOR HOUSE FIRE

Initial investigations reveal an electrical fault was the likely cause of a fire which caused extensive damage to a house in Kanwal. The blaze broke out in the front room of the Phyllis Avenue premises. Firefighters from Hamlyn Terrace, Toukley and Doyalson worked for three hours to extinguish the flames.

AWARD-WINNING CARTOONIST IN A COMA AFTER BALCONY FALL

Hardys Bay cartoonist, Bill Leak, remains in a serious condition in Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital, after falling seven metres from a balcony at John Singleton’s Mt White property. The 52 year old, whose artworks appear in The Australian newspaper, was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition. He’s since had two rounds of brain surgery but it’s still not known if there’s any lasting damage. It’s understood Leak, who’s won eight Walkley Awards, was feeding birds at the time of his fall.
