MINISTER ANNOUNCES EMERGENCY DREDGING

It might not be the permanent solution the community was looking for, but the announcement of emergency funding for dredging the Ettalong Channel on the Central Coast, is being seen as a step in the right direction. Central Coast Council will also chip in – surveyors will be on site in the next week.

TEENAGE GIRLS CHARGED IN BUS STOP ASSAULT

Two girls have been charged with assaulting another teenager at an Erina bus stop. Shortly before 5pm yesterday, the pair allegedly approached the 14-year-old, pushing and punching her in the face. She was taken to Gosford Hospital with minor injuries. The two girls will appear in a children’s court on Friday. (no audio)

14-YEAR-OLD LEFT WITH FACE INJURIES AFTER CENTRAL COAST ASSAULT

A 14-year-old girl has been left with injuries to her face, after she was allegedly assaulted by two teenage girls on the Central Coast. Just before 5 o’clock yesterday, a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old approached the girl at a bus stop on Terrigal Drive at Erina. The girl was allegedly pushed and punched in the face, before the teens left the scene. Both girls were arrested several hours later, and each charged with multiple offences. They were granted conditional bail, and will face a children’s court later in the month.

HATS ON FOR FIRE AND RESCUE OPEN DAY

There was a sea of tiny red hats at Kariong’s Fire and Rescue Open Day as dozens of local families turned out for a taste of what life is like as a professional firefighter. For the young ones, it was all smiles up front in the driver’s seat… …and later, they were awe-struck with the kitchen fire simulator. In lieu of fighting real flames, the budding firies took turns watering the garden. (audio in parts)

CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED ACT OF INDECENCY

Two men have been charged following an investigation into an alleged act of indecency on a Newcastle bound train last year. Officers were alerted to the incident, which occurred on December 4 last year, by a 17-year-old girl after she witnessed a man commit the alleged act of indecency while travelling between Central and Wyong. A 53-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident at Wyong on Friday, and charged with committing an act of indecency with a person 16 years or over. He faced court this morning, and was refused bail to reappear at Wyong Local Court on Monday. Officers also executed a search warrant at a property on Northcott Avenue at Watanobbi, arresting a 41-year-old man and allegedly seizing a firearm, ammunition, knives, a laser pointer, a conductive electrical device, and prohibited drugs.
