OVAL UPGRADE FOR LAKE MACQUARIE

Lake Macquarie is set to get a top class sporting facility, which it’s hoped could attract AFL teams to the city for pre-season matches. Key stakeholders met at Warners Bay’s Feighan Oval on Tuesday to discuss how best to use a $200,000 state government grant. The oval, which is already well used for local sport, will be upgraded in stages. Proposed works include establishing two full-sized football fields, cricket facilities and other amenities.

DRUGS ARREST AT COOKS HILL

A man suspected of being involved in a drug supply network was arrested in the Newcastle suburb of Cooks Hill on Tuesday morning. Police grabbed the 28-year-old in Darby Street, during a series of coordinated raids across Newcastle and Sydney. Four men in all were arrested over the supply and distribution of cocaine and ecstasy, which police believe was destined for Schoolies Week celebrations.
