Newcastle’s medical and sailing fraternities are mourning the loss of a giant in both spheres. Dr Jim Holley passed away yesterday after a battle with cancer. As well as being an accomplished surgeon, Dr Holley was a talented yachtsman, and sailed in 25 Sydney to Hobarts… 15 of those with his wife Mary aboard their boat, Aurora. He also mentored many young sailors and medicos. Flags were flying at half-mast at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club today, where the 74-year-old was a founding member.
