TIP TOP CONFIRMS IT WILL CLOSE NEWCASTLE BAKERY

Tip Top has confirmed it will close its Newcastle bakery. Production will stop at the Gateshead facility in early July. The organisation says the decision was made as “its core bread business is in decline”. 79 jobs will be affected, and the business says one-on-one discussions are already underway regarding redundancy packages and re-deployment opportunities.

There is some high level cloud making its way over QLD and northern NSW today which will clear by tomorrow. The pulse of energy in the Tasman generating swell will deliver another hit. The huge blocking high is now on its way moving across the south east. Onshore winds will trigger a few isolated showers along the NE NSW coast. So a burst of rare showers will move up the NSW coast as the southerly freshens and another burst of swell reaches our beaches. More dry, sunny weather for inland communities.

RARE AND DANGEROUS JELLYFISH DISCOVERED IN LAKE MACQUARIE

A rare and dangerous jellyfish has been spotted in Lake Macquarie. The Morbakka fenneri jellyfish was discovered hiding among mangroves in Mannering Bay by two marine researchers from the Australian Museum. Lake Macquarie Council has issued a warning to the community to be on the lookout. It’s sting can cause symptoms of Irukandji syndrome, which may include nausea, vomiting, severe lower back pain, breathing difficulties, profuse sweating, severe cramps and spasms.

WOMAN ALLEGEDLY CAUGHT FIVE TIMES OVER LIMIT WITH KIDS IN CAR

A woman has been charged with high range drink driving after allegedly blowing more than five times the legal limit – with her children in the backseat. The 33 year old was pulled over on Manning Street, Tuncurry, about 6.45pm on Tuesday. A man and two six year old children were in the the vehicle. Police say she returned a positive breath test of 0.283. Her licence has been suspended and she’s been charged with high range drink driving Family and Community Services were also notified

TWO MEN ON THE RUN FOLLOWING VIOLENT ROBBERY AT JESMOND

A 38 year old man has been bashed and robbed by two men at Jesmond. Around 6pm, he withdrew money from an ATM at Stockland Jesmond shopping centre on Blue Gum road. Police say he walked through a sporting field and into a laneway near Fraser Street when he was ambushed from behind by two men. He was allegedly knocked to the ground and assaulted before the men made off with his mobile phone and wallet. Police are urging anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious to come forward.
