FORMER KNIGHTS CHAIRMAN AWARDED LIFE MEMBERSHIP WITH NEWCASTLE CRICKET

Former Knights chairman Michael Hill has been awarded life membership with Newcastle Cricket. Proving how significant his career was, this is vision of Hill at his testimonial in 1987, featuring the likes of Australian representatives Doug Walters, Rick McCosker and Dutchy Holland. Hill played first grade for 20 years, winning nine premierships and five player of the year awards.

ANOTHER INJURY SCARE FOR KALYN PONGA

A concerning sight for Knights fans this afternoon, with Kayln Ponga leaving the field at training with a suspected ankle injury. The star fullback, who is in the final stages of recovering from a hamstring injury, appeared to roll his ankle during the session and was seen limping from the field. He is still expected to line up for the Knights this weekend, as they travel to Townsville to take on the Cowboys.

TWO-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN MOTORBIKE ACCIDENT

A 2-year-old girl has died after a motorbike accident in North West NSW. Emergency Services were called to the scene on Haywood Road at Deulrunga at around 9:30 this morning. NSW Police have said “The girl suffered critical injuries and could not be revived.” Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

REPORT SAYS CONTAINERS WERE LOST OFF SHIP IN WILD WEATHER

The preliminary report into a maritime incident which saw 81 containers lost overboard off the coast of Newcastle has been handed down. The report says at just past midnight on June 1 this year, the crew on board the bulk carrier YM Efficiency heard loud noises coming from the deck during rough weather. The crew conducted damage assessment and noticed several containers had been lost overboard. MAN CHARGED OVER CENTRAL COAST BREAK AND ENTERS

A 33-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into multiple break and enters on the Central Coast. It’s understood a man broke into seven shops at Killcare in the early hours of Monday, making off with a number of items including cash and jewellery. The offences were reported to police, with a man arrested in his vehicle on Jarrett Street at Wyoming yesterday. The man’s facing a string of charges including seven counts of break and enter, and resist arrest. He is expected to face Gosford Local Court today.

POLICE SEARCH HUNTER AFTER BIKIE SHOOTING

Police divers are searching a section of the Hunter River at Hexham in relation to the shooting of an outlaw motorcycle gang member in 2016. 37-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED OVER CHILD ONLINE PROCUREMENT

A 37-year-old man has been arrested at Coffs Harbour, following an investigation into the alleged online procurement of a child. He was arrested at a Coffs Harbour beach about 10am on Friday. An investigation began after a tip-off from the Victorian Police, who allege the man had been communicating inappropriately with a young girl since 2016. Investigators conducted an online investigation and it was alleged the man had arranged to meet with the young girl in person. A search of the man’s house and his vehicle led to the seizure of three mobile phones, computers, laptops, electronic storage devices and ammunition. The man was formally refused bail and will appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court today.

FRESH APPEAL FOR INFORMATION OVER MISSING NEW ENGLAND MAN

Police have launched a fresh appeal for information about the disapearance of a New England man. Darren Willis was last seen in Bingara in late 2010, with police treating his disappearance as suspicious. New England Police District Crime Manager, Inspector Ann Joy, said “We have identified a number of persons of interest and they are now the focus of our inquiries.” A $350,000 reward is in place for anyone with information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Anyone who can assist police with their enquiries is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

MAN ARRESTED AT WINDALE OVER MAIL THEFT

A man will face court later today over a spate of mail thefts and break and enters at Lake Macquarie. Police are investigating three break and enters, two at local businesses and one at a tavern in Charlestown, as well as an incident that saw 20 mailboxes robbed in late June. A 33-year-old man was arrested at around 3pm yesterday on South Street at Windale. He was charged with a string of offences including two counts of malicious damage.
