GAV’S WEATHER: SOME PATCHY RAIN ON THE WAY

Southern Australia is finally seeing some cloud with some rain falling under it crossing from SA to Victoria. Most of the north is sunny and still very dry, with widespread above average temperatures. The fronts are still clipping the southern tips of the nation. The shallow low moving across SA is headed for NSW and set to produce a little, light patchy rain on Saturday. Another fine warm day is on the way with some high level cloud set to move in ahead of the patchy rain to fall on the weekend.

MAN KILLED AT PORT STEPHENS

A man has died after a single vehicle crash at Port Stephens. The 64-year-old was travelling in a Toyotaa Hilux on Lemon Tree Passage Road near the intersection with Brownes Road around 7.30 on Wednesday night, when it veered off the road and struck a tree. The man died at the scene. A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

WOMAN MISSING IN NNSW

Police are seeking assistance to locate a 65-year-old woman in northern New South Wales. Patricia Jung was last seen exiting a car on Fernleigh Road, Fernleigh at 11am yesterday. She’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 175cm tall, of a slim build, with blonde/grey hair tied in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved bright red shirt, track pants and short zip-up boots. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.

FFA ADMITS TO VAR DEBACLE IN A-LEAGUE DECIDER

Football Federation Australia has found a technical failure in the Video Assistant Referee system meant there was no access to the camera which would have enabled him to make an offside ruling for the goal that gave Melbourne Victory the title. FFA’s Head of Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, Greg O’Rourke, said the capture software that uploads the broadcast feed into the VAR system was partially lost for 30 seconds before Victory’s goal. It wasn’t until several minutes after the goal that it was restored, too late to change the decision as the game had been restarted. “We are extremely disappointed at this failure of the VAR technology,” O’Rourke said, “And we understand the disappointment and frustration of the Newcastle Jets, their fans and indeed all football fans. “VAR was introduced here and in other parts of the world as …

KAYAKER INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY BOAT

A kayaker has severe injuries to his hand and forearm after being struck by a boat at Port Stephens this morning. Police say the collision occurred just east of Port Stephens and that the kayaker was hit by the boat’s propeller. The 46-year-old was was treated by paramedics and flown to the John Hunter Hospital on the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a serious condition. A 26-year-old man driving the boat was taken to Nelson Bay Community Hospital for mandatory testing. The boat will be examined by specialist police.
