PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AT MAITLAND AIRPORT

The 65-year-old pilot who was the only person on board the twin engine aircraft, was forced to circle the airport to burn off fuel, after encountering a landing gear issue. The aircraft skidded off the runway and came to rest on grass. The left side of the undercarriage was damaged. A layer of foam was sprayed on the aircraft after it came to rest. CALM, COMFORTABLE WEEKEND ON THE WAY

There’s only some high level scattered cloud over eastern Australia as the west sees most of the cloud and rain. A massive high will take over, making for a long, dry, calm run. Temperatures will climb in the coming days. A few showers are set to develop on the NSW mid north coast with partly cloudy skies for most. A southerly will affect the Central Coast/Newcastle region with the slight chance of a shower also. Mild to warm and calm with predominantly fine conditions for the majority of the region.

SEARCH UNDERWAY AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES

At least one person has drowned after a boat capsized in the ocean north of Coffs Harbour this morning. A spokesman from the New South Wales Ambulance Service says a witness from the Nautilus resort phoned triple 0, after seeing the boat capsize off Sapphire Beach. A helicopter has arrived and is searching the water. It’s unclear how many people were on board the vessel.

TODDLER HIT BY TRUCK ON THE CENTRAL COAST

A two-year-old boy has been placed in an induced coma after being knocked down by a truck on the Central Coast. He was flown to John Hunter Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition. Police are now looking for the truckie who did not stop at the scene in Ourimbah, officers saying the driver may not be aware the boy had been hit.

GAV’S WEATHER: SOME PATCHY RAIN ON THE WAY

Southern Australia is finally seeing some cloud with some rain falling under it crossing from SA to Victoria. Most of the north is sunny and still very dry, with widespread above average temperatures. The fronts are still clipping the southern tips of the nation. The shallow low moving across SA is headed for NSW and set to produce a little, light patchy rain on Saturday. Another fine warm day is on the way with some high level cloud set to move in ahead of the patchy rain to fall on the weekend.

MAN KILLED AT PORT STEPHENS

A man has died after a single vehicle crash at Port Stephens. The 64-year-old was travelling in a Toyotaa Hilux on Lemon Tree Passage Road near the intersection with Brownes Road around 7.30 on Wednesday night, when it veered off the road and struck a tree. The man died at the scene. A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

WOMAN MISSING IN NNSW

Police are seeking assistance to locate a 65-year-old woman in northern New South Wales. Patricia Jung was last seen exiting a car on Fernleigh Road, Fernleigh at 11am yesterday. She’s described as being of Caucasian appearance, around 175cm tall, of a slim build, with blonde/grey hair tied in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved bright red shirt, track pants and short zip-up boots. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
