DAM STORAGE DROPS

Total dam storage on the Central Coast has dropped slightly to just under 30 percent of its capacity, following a week with hardly any rain. Households have used 26 megalitres less water than they did last week, staying well below the level three target. So far, the catchment areas have received about 150 millimetres less rain, than it did at the same time last year.

CAT CAUSES FIRE

It appears a cat may have caused a fire in a granny flat at Saratoga. Firefighters were quick to arrive at the Mimosa Street property and extinguished the fire, which caused substantial damage. Of most concern was a bottle of nitrous oxide which was inside the flat. It had to be cooled down, amid fears it would explode. Initial investigations have revealed the fire was sparked by a heater, knocked over by a cat while the occupant was out.

PROTESTS CONTINUE – 60 ARRESTED

More than 60 people have now been arrested following two days of climate change protests in Newcastle. Police say they’re disappointed by the illegal behaviour, but environmental activists say it shows dedication to their cause. The protests started at daybreak. Five people locking onto coal loading equipment in Kooragang Island. It’s the second day demonstrations against coal mining and climate change have been held in Newcastle.
