Lord Mayor Ross Kerridge to take medical leave

Newcastle’s Lord Mayor will temporarily stand down, to undergo treatment for a “serious medical condition”, wth the Lord Mayor set to take a three-month leave of absence, due to medical advice.
The former senior anaesthetist has posted a message on his Facebook page, saying:
“At the beginning of October, I spent some time with my family. Unfortunately, during this time, I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition that requires treatment.
As part of this treatment, I have now been advised that I should take leave from my role as Lord Mayor until mid-January, in order to prioritise my own health.”
He’s also requested privacy at this time.
Just today, Cr Kerridge was a guest speaker at the University of Newcastle’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
He’s been in the top job for just over 12 month sand NBN News interviewed him in September about his first year as Lord Mayor.
He said he’s faced constant scrutiny since he defected from Labor and unseated the ALP from the top job.
Newcastle Council says Deputy Lord Mayor Charlotte McCabe will assume the responsibilities of Lord Mayor in his absence.
