WALLARAH 2 AND CASAR MOTOR PRECINCT COULD CO-EXIST

Darkinjung Land Council says the lodging of a development application for the CASAR motor precinct wouldn’t stop the Wallarah 2 coal mine moving ahead, should negotiations resume.

The controversial mine project, put forward by ‘Kores Australia’ needs a 200 metre wide passage of Aboriginal land, for rail access into the mine.

Land Council CEO, Sean Gordon says the two projects COULD co-exist, but matters are at a standstill.

“We’re not working out whether Wallarah 2 will reach an agreement with Darkinjung or not we’re moving on with business”, Mr Gordon said.

The future of the mine is in Darkinjung hands, after a Land and Environment Court ruling last year.

The Land Council has agreed to a 60-year lease with the proponents of the motor precinct.
