Tragedy as 17-year-old learner driver killed in collision between ute and car

Police are investigating how a teenage learner driver was killed during a two-vehicle crash in the NSW Hunter region overnight.
Emergency services were called to the crash scene at John Renshaw Drive, Black Hill, about 9pm yesterday to find a a Holden commodore and a Ford ute had collided.
The learner driver of the Holden – a 17-year-old boy – died at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy who was travelling in the rear of the car was treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The 56-year-old male front passenger of the Holden was also treated at the scene and taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in a stable condition.
The driver of the ute – a 62-year-old woman – was treated for minor injuries and later underwent mandatory testing in hospital.
Police have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the cause of the crash.
