Newcastle Council also voted not to sell off three parcels of land at New Lambton, New Lambton Heights and Merewether, following a community campaign to save the so-called pocket parks.
“Obviously we’re very happy but most of all we are happy that this decision was made in the right way, the effected communities got the chance to let councillors know how they used these spaces and what they’re used for.”
The fate of three other parks at Jesmond, Waratah and Wallsend is yet to be decided.
