New program helps Hunter women fleeing domestic and family violence build financial independence

Some Hunter women have started rebuilding their lives after completing a new program, which supports those fleeing domestic and family violence.

Zahra Foundation launched its nine-week ‘Pathways to Empowerment’ initiative in the region late last year; it helps participants build financial independence.

“We’ve had women who have been able to enroll in TAFE, so that they can look at future opportunities to live free from violence. Because they’ll have the money and the independence to be able to do that for themselves and their children.” – Natalie Cowper, Pathways to Empowerment Program Co-ordinator.

The program is funded by the Greater Charitable Foundation, in collaboration with local support service, Jenny’s Place.
