Newcastle church youth group leader Brett Edward Sorby granted bail

The prosecution has launched a legal challenge, after a Maryville man accused of sex offences has been granted bail.

59-year-old Brett Sorby is facing 14 child sex charges concerning a teenage girl, between 2004 and 2005.

A Newcastle Local Court magistrate granted him strict conditional bail… but Sorby will remain behind bars until the decision is reviewed in the Supreme Court.
