UNIVERSITY REPORT FINDS SHORTAGE OF CHILDCARE FACILITIES IN PARTS OF THE HUNTER

It’s a problem that’s plagued parents on and off for years – and right now finding a childcare place in the Hunter is far from easy.

A new report shows availability rates in parts of the region are among the lowest in the country.

Full statement from NSW Minister for Education and Early Learning, Sarah Mitchell:

The Australian Government has primary responsibility for long day care services, which provide care from six weeks to school age, and invests funding to support families’ access to childcare through the Child Care Subsidy.

However, the NSW Government is making a significant investment in early childhood education services in this state because of its importance to both young lives and to the broader economy.

We know that parents need access to high quality early childhood education so they can confidently return to the workforce, and that our youngest learners benefit greatly from high-quality early learning.

This is why we are providing opportunities for more children across NSW to participate in 600 hours of quality preschool education in the year before school, no matter where they live or what their circumstances are.
