HUNDREDS OF HUNTER NURSES AND MIDWIVES RALLY OVER WORKING CONDITIONS

Among those calling for change – nurses and midwives across the Hunter.

They rallied in Newcastle, warning regional hospitals are at breaking point.

FULL STATEMENT NSW HEALTH:

Today’s strike action by the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association caused minor disruptions and delays to health services throughout the state.

These disruptions and delays mainly related to elective surgeries and some community health services.

Despite the strike action instigated by the union, in defiance of the Industrial Relations Commission’s Orders, our hospitals maintained life preserving staff.

Local Health Districts (LHDs) also had plans in place to minimise disruptions and delays in public hospitals, and to ensure all those in need of emergency and urgent care continued to receive it as quickly as possible.

NSW Health and LHDs continue to closely monitor the situation and will immediately take any steps required to ensure safe and high-quality patient care is maintained.

The NSW Government and NSW Health have engaged in talks with the union and remains committed to reaching a resolution in the best interests of our patients and all our healthcare workers.
