TWO DEATHS AND 73 NEW COVID CASES IN THE HUNTER NEW ENGLAND

The covid death toll in the Hunter has climbed to seven after two more people in the regional died with the disease.

A woman in her 50s from Newcastle died in Calvary Mater hospital and woman in her 70s from Cessnock died in John Hunter Hospital.

Both had underlying health issues and received both doses of a vaccine.

It comes as 73 new cases were recorded in the Hunter New England in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the health district to 2198 since the start of the outbreak.

Of the new cases, there were:

  • 19 in Newcastle
  • 17 in Maitland
  • 16 in Lake Macquarie
  • 12 in Cessnock
  • 6 in Mid Coast
  • 2 in Port Stephens
  • 1 in Singleton

27 cases were in isolation for their entire infectious period, 33 were infectious in the community, and 13 are still under investigation.

Forty five cases are linked to known exposures or clusters, 15 are unlinked, and the source of 13 cases is under investigation.

Sadly, another person passed away at Gosford Hospital.

The woman in her 70s had underlying health conditions and was not vaccinated.

The Central Coast recorded 14 new infections today.

There were three more in the Northern NSW health district and one on the Mid North Coast.
