78 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN THE HUNTER NEW ENGLAND HEALTH DISTRICT

New South Wales has recorded 444 new COVID-19 cases overnight.

In the Hunter New England Health District, there are 78 new cases; 22 in Cessnock, 14 in Newcastle, 14 at Lake Maccquarie, 12 in the MidCoast LGA, 7 in Port Stephens, 7 in Maitland and 2 in Tamworth.

There’s 17 on the Central Coast, 12 in Northern New South Wales, and one on the Mid North Coast.

The virus has been detected in sewage at a range of locations including West Wyalong, Uralla, Brewarrina and Wauchope.

Meanwhile, the Singleton Caledonian Hotel has been handed 2 additional $1,000 fines for failing to comply with health orders.

Venue staff and patrons have been given $4,000 worth of fines in two days.

While the Hunter is on track to have first dose vaccination rates higher than the state average, parts of the Hunter are still lagging behind on double dose.

Double doses for residents in Cessnock and Muswellbrook are less than 60 per cent.
