REGIONAL NSW LOCKDOWN EXTENDED

NSW has recorded 681 new cases of COVID-19, with at least 59 of those infectious in the community and the source of 511 cases still under investigation.

The Hunter New England Health District recorded five new cases, all in Newcastle.

Both the Central Coast and Mid North Coast recorded one case each, with one in Gosford and another in Kempsey.

Due to ongoing concerns about community transmission, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced regional communities will be in lockdown until “at least” August 28.

This brings the state’s regions into line with the current lockdown timeline for Greater Sydney and surrounds.

The state also broke a new record with 110,000 COVID-19 vaccinations yesterday.

5.5 million jabs have now been administered in NSW and 53% of the state’s population has had at least one dose.

“Once we get to 6 million jabs those that are vaccinated will have the opportunity to be able to do something they can’t do now,” said Ms Berejiklian.

The state also recorded one new death of a man in his 80s who died at St George Hospital.

He had received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and was being treated for another serious medical condition.

NSW is currently treating 474 people in hospital with COVID-19.

Of those, 82 are in intensive care and 25 are being ventilated.

NSW Police have issued 671 COVID-19 infringement notices in just 24 hours to residents breaching public health orders.

Of those, 393 were issued to people who were out of their home without a reasonable excuse.
